I am aware of it and I believe you.

However, buying it here would cost me almost twice as V700 and this is
simply over my budget.

otoh, hiring is not an option here and for the cost of bringing 2000
slides to some studio to be scanned at 300 dpi in *.{jpg,bmp} format I
can buy new V700 :-/


So, I've to make compromise, but the original question remains the same:
is CinePaint appropriate tool for my task?
