Hello Gour.

That I find strange. Where I live, the LS-50, which is a brilliant 
scanner, costs no more than the Epson flatbed V700. Are you sure that 
you do not confuse the LS-50 with the much more expensive LS-5000?

In the US, the price for the Coolscan LS-50 is between $599-639.

- Back to the program itself, I am a professional photographer who has 
used Cinepaint under Linux for several years. I convert my RAW files in 
Bibble Pro, and the resulting TIFF's I work with in Cinepaint. The same 
if I shoot in JPEG - something I do only when I shoot sports.

I never use GIMP for photography. Sad to say as it is GIMP is unsuitable 
for serious photo work, at least up to an including the 2.4-version. It 
does not support 16-bit editing. That is bad enough. Worse, its Unsharp 
Mask filter smears the detail in the picture instead of sharpening it. I 
am willing to retract my words if the new 2.6-version is better or 
whenever GIMP becomes a serious tool, but the GIMP versions I have tried 
are not remotely capable of real photo editing. It is clear to me that 
GIMP is not made with photographers in mind. That may change, though.

Cinepaint is something else. I use it every day with success.
