You need a FLTK configured with the --enable-threads option.

Download FLTK: www.fltk.org
$ tar xzf fltk-1.1.xxxx.tar.gz
$ configure --enable-threads --enable-xft --enable-xinerama
$ make
$ make install     (as root)

configure + compile CinePaint again
