there was a slight delay due to camera battery charging, the camera
RAW file will be up in about 5 minutes.
so to review, asterisks are my opinions:
http://www.colorist.org/images/DSC_1180.NEF
raw file from Nikon D70
http://www.colorist.org/images/DSC_1180_lightroom.tiff
16 bit file saved from Adobe Lightroom, imported from Nikon
camera, nothing adjusted.
*quite acceptable. Lightroom, however, does not offer the kinds of
adjustments that Cinepaint and Photoshop do.
http://www.colorist.org/images/DSC_1180_gimp.jpg
8 bit .jpg saved from The Gimp, nothing adjusted other than
file format.
*soft, unusable.
http://www.colorist.org/images/DSC_1180.tiff
16-bit TIFF OpenEXR Half Float - Rgb - Wide Gamut D65
saved from Cinepaint, no adjustments.
*more grain or noise in the lowlights than the lightroom example above.
