The Sigma SD14 (http://www.sigma-photo.com/cameras/default.asp and http://www.sigma-sd14.com/index.html) gets good reviews. It is considerably higher resolution than what was available in 2002. The main drawbacks seem to be its requirement for Sigma lenses (can't reuse on other cameras), and increased noise in low-light situations. For outdoor shooting, it seems to produce better images than any other camera in its price range. It is not the perfect camera for every task.
