You probably mean 'dmesg | grep drm'.  You may need to add a few 
lines to /etc/modules, probably "agp", "drm", and "radeon". If 
after a reboot 'dmesg | egrep "agp|drm" ' then still gives no 
output, post the output of 'lsmod'.

You mean you have installed a new video card after having installed 
Edgy?  Then it's indeed likely that a reinstall of Edgy will find 
the card and automatically install the required drivers.  But what's 
the fun in that?  :)
