Hi Gaetano,
You are using quite old software versions, and some of your problems
sound like known bugs that later have been fixed (I have a Savage card
myself). I would recommend downloading for instance the Ubuntu 7.04
Beta Desktop (live) CD and see if things work better. It has Xorg 7.2
and kernel 2.6.20.
