dvdrip, lsdvd and perl on macosx

Hi everybody,

 I am running dvdrip 0.98.8 with lsdvd 0.15 on an Intel Mac (osx 10.4.10)
dvdrip compiles and runs smoothly but when I try to read the dvd's TOC it fails and this is the output of the log file:

It sounds strange to me because lsdvd works fine launched from the command line with the same options except for the  execflow string.
I think that it might be a perl-related problem and I think that dvdrip is actually unable to run the commmand itself
I tried to disable and use the dvdreading tool which comes from transcode and I get a similar error while the same command runs fine from the terminal.

I installed all the perl modules so I don't know how to sort this problem out
any ideas??
