Thanks for your reply.

My aim is to keep the quality high as possible, epically if the files
are to be viewed ina a larger LCD screen.
I notice the IFO files generated by dvd::rip provide useful information.
However I have other concerns as well now.
Such as dvd::rip becoming responsive when previewing in filter
configuration.  The preview works until I attempt to stop it.
I the have to kill dvd::rip and start it again.
Also the output  avi file has frames with black blotches when trying
the Virtual DUB motion sensitive deinterlace filter - that is mostly
because I probably do not yet know how to set the filters up yet.
