dvdrip hangs on create project or open project

I installed the port for dvdrip 0.98.11 on FreeBSD 8.1.  I can click any active menu option except open project.  When I select open project, the program hangs.  The open dialog box doesn't come up.  I get the same thing if I select new project and then click the create project button.  I tried the debug option but nothing was displayed.  I also tried uninstalling the port and installing the package, but there was no difference.
