libavifile problems

Hi all!

As you might already know, we have problems with libavifile.
On newer debian (unstable), and newer gentoo installations,
gephex can't play avifiles. Libavifile can't resolve
certain symbols in it's plugins.
The problem is described in more detail here [1]
(with complete thread, but first message not displayed),
or here [2].

On debian, an older libavifile package solves the problem
[3]. We don't know the reason for the bug, yet.

It would really help if the people using gephex on linux
could answer to this email and report wether gephex + libavifile
works on their installation.
Of course it also would help if someone has an idea what could
cause the bug :)

We plan to drop libavifile and use ffmpeg instead, but due to
limited manpower this could take some more time.
