The only developer i know of with access to a fw dv device is sven.

In the long term we should integrate the driver in a more general
stream_input module.

Georg and i had the idea of changing the type of the camera/input
selection parameter from number to string and use some kind of url
syntax to select the input stream:

examples

hardware input: webcam, framegrabber, dv device
"v4l:/dev/video0"
"v4l2:/dev/video1"
"ds:/..." (direct show)

and a default url for the first hardware device like:

"default" or "default-input"

local applications: ipc with pipes or shared memory
y4m:/tmp/stream1.yuv (yuv4mpeg)

network streams: ogg/theora via icecast, local broadcast or muticast
(like veejay)

ice://stream.gephex.org/stream1.ogg
veejay://...
