Gimp gets stuck when i do channel to selection.

Hi , im really sorry to post this here , but i get no answer in other
forums .


When i do a channel to selection , the fan starts to speed up really
fast and i cant do anything,  until i deselect .


I have a Asus laptop ,ATI mmovility radeon x1700 , 2GRam ,core2duo.

Please , is there somrthing i can do ?
