New installation problem

I have just installed the latest version but find that it keeps on
freezing up my computer - even when just getting rid of the latest first
tip! I have to use control/alt/delete as the only way to allow me to
normal use of the computer. I am not very computer literate so please
keep it simple-new to the group only today!!
