I have put new GraphicsMagick snapshots out for ftp at "ftp://ftp.graphicsmagick.org/pub/GraphicsMagick/snapshots". The only feature addition since the previous snapshot is that Glenn has added a -random-dither command for rapidly randomly "dithering" an image to black and white. The results are not nearly as nice as using quantization plus dithering, but it is probably 10X to 20X faster, and still produces appealing results in many cases. A sample command line is gm convert -random-dither intensity 10x90 in.jpg out.pbm where values below 10 are always thresholded to black, values above 90 are always thresholded to white, and values in between are randomly thresholded to achieve a dithered effect.
