You are probably right, but I will give it a try before I follow-up with ActiveState. (BTW, I asked them the following: Please let me know which compiler you are using for compiling ActiveState Perl 5.10 on Windows. I would like to compile PerlMagick API for Graphics Magic for use with ActiveState Perl 5.10 and I heard that I will get best results if I use the same compiler as you used for compiling ActiveState Perl 5.10 executable for Windows.) I can see how it would be nice to use MinGW (and MinGW-64) to have a cross platform build using the same build environment, but this is too ambitious for what I am after at this time: getting PerlMagick build for ActiveState 5.10 to run some performance tests. I will let you know about progress... Did they actually say that ActivePerl downloadable binaries are built using MinGW? It is highly unlikely that mixing MSVC-build and MinGW-built code will mix ok, at least if OpenMP is involved.
