It seems to take a very long time ("imminent" seems like years).

New development is done on CVS HEAD.
A free installer builder called "Inno Setup" is used. The
source-code/scripts to support this are in the directory
VisualMagick/installer. Be sure to read README.txt in that directory.
This text is a pretty accurate description of what I do, except for
not mentioning the extra step required (in Visual Studio) to enable
OpenMP for the build.
Note that the installer currently expects to use files created by the
Visual Studio build, which produces different file names (e.g. DLLs
use different names) than the MinGW build. The MinGW build uses a
Unix style naming strategy and directory layout. If GraphicsMagick
was to switch to using MinGW for its binary distribution, then the
installer configuration would need to be updated. Probably a few
additional minor changes to the GraphicsMagick MinGW build would be
desireable as well.
There may be the possibility of statically linking the GraphicsMagick
library into the PerlMagick PPM, but that would not solve the
configuration file issue (.mgk files). It would also mean that
support for some formats (e.g. JBIG) should be left out due to
potential patent/license issues.
