Re: multispectral file access

Thanks to John & Bob for pointing out that GM is not designed for 
multispectral imagery,
  rather 1-5 channels.  I assume the same is true for IM.

Of the two components of VIPS,
I would be interested in libvips  (fortunately LGPL!).
It seems that libvips is on the verge of releasing a rewrite,
which I assume would be version 8.  It all sounds appealing, specially
the tiling/caching for large images.  When do you think version 8 will
be made available?

I have also be looking at OpenImageIO

It also seems to satisfy what I need.  The documentation is quite good,
explaining also how to write plugins.  I would probably need to write my
own geotiff plugin on top of the tiff plugin.

Still in the evaluation stage ...
