That is one reason I have not just slurped in the new libtiff.  From
looking at ImageMagick's libtiff, it may include the tiff LZW patch.
I could be wrong since I didn't look closely.  It at least enables the
define to enable LZW.

It seems that Adobe is a primary motivator behind the "current image
standard".  That means that Adobe will naturally be ahead of library
maintainers.

Nope, not a good sign.  Probably one reason is that the TIFF API/ABI
is known to be fragile and they want to achieve a stable ABI for
systems like Linux.
