That's why CMake seems appealing. I took a basic look at the docs and they
claim to support third party libraries and all that. I think it is
interesting that the reason they wrote it was to support a 3D cross platform
graphics library.

I should mention that it may be possible for the Unix-style build
environment to support using VS build tools.  This would require that
Cygwin or MinGW's MSYS shell be installed.

Most Windows users like IDEs and GUIs so the Unix configure script
solution would no be popular.
