As of today, The GraphicsMagick development 1.2 Unix/MinGW/Cygwin build environment uses a single Makefile to build everything. There is no more recursion. This obtains the benefits described in Peter Miller's excellent paper, Recursive Make Considered Harmful, at "http://www.pcug.org.au/~millerp/rmch/recu-make-cons-harm.html". With one Makefile, 'make' has a complete and coherent view of all source files and targets so it can make ideal decisions. There is no more floundering around, or unnecessary re-linking. In order to accomplish this, the Makefile is practially re-written from scratch. Bugs may have been added. Please let me know if you encounter one.
