It doesn't bother me too much that saving associated-alpha tiffs is lossy (in the transparent areas) because this seems to be something that TIFF users expect. I would like for the GraphicsMagick APIs and utilities to continue working similar to before. The only question is if it is ok to automatically promote a colormapped image to TrueColor type when it is saved.
