That is a nice way to think about it. :-)

I was a big Tcl user in the early '90s but since then I have mostly 
forgotten its simple syntax.

No.  It is only in my brain.

The problem is immediately discovered if one attempts to run a 
TkMagick script on an OS which hides symbols from previously loaded 
modules by default.  The current design expects that a symbol needed 
by TkMagick will be resolved from a global TclMagick symbol, based on 
the TclMagick module being previously loaded.

I am sure that there must be a recommended way for Tcl C modules to 
share pointers/data at the C level.
