Default behavior of "image%02d.miff"?

Due to ImageMagick heritage, when a multi-frame image is written to a
file specification like "image%02d.miff", the image is automatically
written to multiple files like "image00.miff", "image01.miff" even if
the frames could all have gone in the same file. There is a -adjoin
option which is supposed to control this.

For GraphicsMagick 1.2 should the behavior be changed so that this
automatic splitting does not take place based entirely on the output
file name? The +adjoin option could still be used to force the
splitting. What problems will it cause if this default behavior is
removed?
