Most _users_ would only be interested in a fast working codec. But we are
not in "user stage", yet. 

Most _developers_ would _love_ to have a clean Java (or anything else)
implementation. But they wouldn't want to create it, because it's very
unrewarding to clean up other peoples' code, or to even start from scratch
when the result will have no "new features", but just be easier to
understand.
