IM download packages

I've been trying to find the most recent IM package. I'm currently 
using 5.5.3. 
One of the things I can't figure out is the difference between the 
various windows packages.
On some sites they have Imagemagick-5.5.3-3.zip which is about 4Mb 
and sometimes there'll also be a -2.zip which seems to have similar 
contents. What's the difference between these -2 and -3 files?

Then in a subdirectory they'll have, say, Imagemagick-5.5.3-2.zip and 
ImageMagick-5.5.3-3.zip both of which are about 21Mb. I haven't been 
able to get a download of these larger files to complete.
What is in them?

Also, on Windows (ME) what is the correct way to install a new 
version? I found Version 5.5.4, uninstalled 5.5.3, installed 5.5.4 
and then the programs I had written said they could not find any of 
the IM DLL files. How does a package register where the DLL files are 
and can I do that myself to force the system to "know" where 5.5.4 is?

I reinstalled 5.5.3 and everything works again.
