Still struggling with the scaling

HIya
Okay here's the latest trauma...
What happens when I do a Get->('columns') ? What does it return? I'm
assuming it gets the width of the image it's reading.
What I want to do is give it a few diff. widths andwith if statements,
scale using the percentage according to how large the original photo
is. I gave up trying to use scale because you have to specify
**both** width AND height; it won't automatically proportionalize the
image if you only set one of the parameters, and it's driving me nuts
and I can't get an answer.
Can anyone help? I'm using perl.
