Blender 2.42 is in Fedora Core 5 extras. So on my system "yum install
blender" works.

Fedora is trying to make the core distribution be smaller, and have lots
of packages in extras. As long as a package is FOSS and someone steps up
to maintain it, it should be allowed in extras.
