That's right, it's a hard disc install.

It can do, but not all applications are designed to take advantage of 
that method. 3D rendering with Blender and Yafray could be set up like 
that, as could Qsampler and Linuxsampler to run Gigasampler files. 
Software synths are another candidate for that treatment.
