I'm not up to date on Quicktime status is linux, especially the
codecs. But I do deal daily with delivered VFX shots. My 2 cents...

Depending on how you are delivering the shots (FTP, DVD, firewire...)
if delivering a quicktime I would prefer that it is setup exactly to
my hardware (Kona 2/3, 10bit aka V210 codec). Otherwise I have to
render and at that point I'd rather receive a file sequence. Because
if there's a problem with one frame, I can have you re-send just that
frame, not the entire quicktime.

If you are definately delivering in Quicktime (or required to) I would
probably suggest setting up an After Effects or Shake station.
Rendering file sequences is pretty ast on modern hardware. Good ole
Quicktime Pro can also read file sequences and export quicktimes. I've
kinda played around with SilverStack <http://pomfort.com/silverstack/>
on OS X, which offers a lot of neat features you may or may not need,
it's not free though. Wasn't exactly speedy either, but didn't get to
test that much.

Nonetheless, I would love to hear if you do come up with a solution.
