one good reason i see for using a mac, beyond the codec being available 
and easy to install, is that Autodesk will more easily support your 
hardware on the mac (ie: on windows, you have to have a very specific 
card, with OpenGL support, etc...). from what i understand, all the MACs 
out there support GL out of the box. support, if you are paying for it, 
would be useless if you didn't use "supported hardware". getting that 
hardware to work is extremely easy on a mac, not so much on a linux box 
(have to have a very specific distro, version, etc)

$.02 that are not probably worth it... :)
