Cinelerra is an interesting app, but it's kind of divorced from the 
community development process. It does have a third-party developer 
community, but this group is compelled to work somewhat independently 
from the original author. It has a reputation for instability, which may 
be unfair (it actually runs very sweetly on 64 Studio, better than on 
Fedora, our users tell us - and it's developed on Fedora).

 From a free software/proprietary software point of view, it's a 'worst 
of both worlds approach', which has meant Cinelerra adoption is not what 
it could have been. The situation is compounded by the fact that most 
mainstream Linux distros are not interested in tackling the multimedia 
codec licensing headache. I hope to meet some of the Linux Media Arts 
guys at the EBU seminar next month, and perhaps discuss how we can bring 
Cinelerra to a wider audience.

As for JahShaka and JahPlayer, we've asked more than once for current 
source code, but have never received a reply. The latest source release 
is from May 2006, and it's for JahShaka only:

Despite the petition, I don't see any evidence that MainActor sources 
will be released.

Pyramix and Nuendo are nipping at it's heels though. Harrison have a 
film dubbing product based on 64 Studio and Ardour:
