This is probably what you want:

mplayer "mf://SHOT_*.tga" -mf fps=24

You can also use this with any other mplayer/mencoder parameters to do
whatever you need, within the limits of ffmpeg/mplayer.  If you leave
off the "-mf fps=24" param, it will playback as fast as it can read.

ffmpeg doesn't provide DPX support, last I knew, but it should.. And I'm
sure they'd welcome the contribution.


As others have mentioned, 

IFX has a couple of products depending on your specific need.


Also, I believe SpectSoft (www.spectsoft.com) has a DPX-based
frame-server.
