Yeah - the plan is just to hook up a raid over fibre. I've given
http://djv.sourceforge.net/ a try and we've managed to play back
1920x1080 over gigabit lan at 9-10 fps. Which means it's managing to
pull something around 72-80megabytes/second over the lan to play it
back.

Getting a fibre raid setup tomorrow and will give that a spin. DJV
sounds very similar to what you were looking at building, but it's
GPLed.
