ANother thing..

Recall the reason we have DLL's in windows was and assumption 
about people not ever needing or having a use for more than 1 meg of 
ram in MSDOS.. DLL's must be under the limit of a meg because 
that's the virtual machine footprint in the Intel processor.. 
Data formats can influence constraints on design.. 

This XCF has a 2 meg limitation? Hey I'm working on a 36,000 
frame animation (36 gigs), that's 20 minutes (which will take 
about , at a resolution 1024x1024) which I can render out in about a 
day at 2 seconds per frame on my 2.4 Ghz machine in a day in 
blender.. Gives you an idea of how much the industry has changed and 
how inadequate a file format is.. Especially one with a static size 
limit.. This would only be useful for distribution of compressed 
movie content but not useful for actual production work.. Something 
like RAR for movie files might be useful, but something says to me 
it should be object based all the way.. How about an object that 
maintains integrity, not by mere error correction techniques but 
by also by calling and obtaining corrections to fix the file knowing 
full well where it came from (internetwored self-healing media 
objects {consider how media is perpetuated on kazaa and apply this 
to a media file, you have people with files, everyone knows the 
proper CRC's but only a few have the complete files, but everyone is 
capable over time of obtaining the correct file}). Kazaa encourages 
the integrity of file transfer by producing a dependency 
relationship where everyone is leeching off of everyone obtaining 
the fixes to their incomplete downloads.. The mechanism guarantees 
file transfer integrity by consensus.. Even though it is pirating 
a lot of the time.. ITs a needed attribute of a media format. 
How about being able to stream data from multiple soruces based on 
the the correctness of the data and the throughput of the source?

Is a media format a file or a dynamic object relationship?
