1. That's a pretty old version of Mesa.  I'd suggest grabbing 7.11 
which has better ES support.

2. The Mesa demos tree has OpenGL ES demos.  There's no recent tarball 
of the demos so it's best to get them from git:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/demos/
