As you'll see soon from the mjpeg-cvs mailing list, I just checked in what I'm calling "version 3 beta" of y4mdenoise! This is the first practical implementation of my original idea. It finally analyzes the frame and applies the largest matches first, working its way down to the smaller matches, within the limits of the match-size-throttle and match-count-throttle. The quality increase over previous versions of y4mdenoise is so dramatic that it's not really comparable. And surprisingly, the speed isn't too bad either! I'm calling this "beta" because I still have a bunch of little performance improvements to do still, and I have yet to give this new version a thorough read-through to flush out any loose ends. But the functionality has survived several days of testing, and it's at least ready for the developers to check it out. Now that I'm pretty sure I have my final algorithm, I've been planning out more SMP-aware versions of y4mdenoise; those will come later (and I'll call the first one of those "version 4"). Hopefully, I'll still find a way to move part of it to the Cell's SPUs.
