That would be me.  I'm not sure what a more gracefull solution would be.
The upcoming version of libdvdread is does not call assert in any situation
like this, though it will still print a message much like this one.

Dumping the contents of the NAV block where this non zero dsi->dsi_gi.zero1
value occurs and knowing if the player is expected to do something special
there would be a good start...

Good info.. still a bit vague, my guess is that that DVD is masterd with
software on Mac like the others that have this 'bug'.  It might be the
web DVD stuff or just an artifact of that mastering software.. also see 
ogle-user for a report of this problem from a DVD burnt on a stand alone
DVD burner (I guess it's like a VCR using DVD disc or something).
