Yes and no. libdvdread/libdvdcss doesn't really have any kernel specific
code in it. This is a harware/kernel/libc/compilation bug.

It's been reported several time for 2.4 kernels also, usualy it's been
cured by people switching to ide-scsi, as this is now going away in 2.6
that won't be a solution anymore.

Tried to track this same problem down during the week for another user.
We though we had found a fix for it, a misscompilation of libdvdcss.
(Workaround commited to libdvdcss CVS). It looked like the syscall of
_llseek() was given the wrong data (just 32bit, but is't a 64bit file io
function). Though later it was reported that instead mostlikely was a
firmware bug in his PLEXTOR drive.
See ogle-user and libdvdcss-devel mailing list archives for more info.
(This was also libc 2.3.2 and libdvdcss 1.2.8, perhaps there is
an issue with the precompiled version of libdvdcss and this libc).

To answer the specific question 'Will there be a Linux kernel 2.6
aware version of libdvdread?'
No, in all likelihood there will never be a such a thing, just like there
is no 2.4 'aware' version.
