The latter turned out to be correct. For some reason, today my package system insisted on reinstalling libdvdcss2 and this made the bug reappear. After removing the package altogether and rebooting, playback started working again - I guess this is because the players then reverted to using my locally built libraries in /usr/local/lib. I was using Christian Marillat's unofficial debian package of libdvdcss so that package must be broken. I'm not sure why I had to reboot, though. I was under the impression that running ldconfig refreshed all the library dependencies, but I guess not. Regards, Johan
