I tried it and here are the results.

Here are the test platforms:

Platform 1: Linux RHEL3 IA-32 PIV 1.8GHz, NVidia Quadro 480FX, XFree86-4.3.0-81.EL
Platform 2: Solaris 9, SunBlade 150, XVR-600 graphics, XSun
Plarform 3: Solaris 10, SunBlade 2000, XVR-1000 graphics, XSun

All of the XImage and XFillRectangle work on all platforms.

First of all, the 'XShmPutImage' rectangles are 'Red' on Linux and 
'Blue'on both sparc platforms.

* Overlap all test (Press 's', '7'):
- test app dies on Platform 1, 2 and 3 with:
X Error of failed request:  BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
   Major opcode of failed request:  149 (MIT-SHM)
   Minor opcode of failed request:  3 (X_ShmPutImage)
   Value in failed request:  0x12c
   Serial number of failed request:  19
   Current serial number in output stream:  19

* Draw rectangle in the middle (Press 's', '0'):
- Platform 1 (RHEL): *WORKS*
- Platform 2 (s9): *WORKS*
- Platform 3 (s10): *WORKS*

* Overlap edge on left side (Press 's', '1'):
- Platform 1 (RHEL): *WORKS*
- Platform 2 (s9): Dies
- Platform 3 (s10): Dies

* Overlap top (Press 's', '2'):
- Platform 1 (RHEL): *WORKS*
- Platform 2 (s9): Dies
- Platform 3 (s10): Dies

* Overlap right side (Press 's', '3'):
- Platform 1 (RHEL): *WORKS*
- Platform 2 (s9): *WORKS*
- Platform 3 (s10): *WORKS*

* Overlap bottom (Press 's', '4'):
- Platform 1 (RHEL): *WORKS*
- Platform 2 (s9): *WORKS*
- Platform 3 (s10): *WORKS*

* Overlap left to right (Press 's', '5'):
- Platform 1 (RHEL): Dies
- Platform 2 (s9): Dies

So it seems that XSun is a bit more restrictive than XFree's X server...

I'm trying to recompile ogle on the sb150 to see if it suffers from the 
same problem than under s10..
