Deinterlacer: query for rationale

Confirmed. It is, indeed, what I wanted. Practically the same idea, but 
already well done. I will not develop a deinterlacer of my own.

But porting seems a hard thing because of the overly complicated xine plugin 
interface. I am now thinking whether to jump into this.

So now I have a big and hard question. I apologize for it, but I need to know 
this...

What is the rationale for the ogle project at present? It was the first 
menu-enabled dvd player but now xine does this too (using ogle's code). It is 
indeed simpler to run than xine, closer to a set top box; but the same can be 
reached by developing a "cutdown-unwindowed" interface for xine. Are there 
any other reasons to prefer ogle to xine? For me these will be reasons to 
port the deinterlacer, rather than just go to xine.

Ogle certainly was a great and needed work because of the menu support; but 
what is its meaning now?
