With Mandrake 9.2 using devsf and ide-scsi, I use a softlink  to /dev/scsi/.../cd

lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           31 Mar  8 17:48 /dev/dvd -> scsi/host1/bus0/target0/lun0/cd
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           36 Mar  8 17:48 /dev/dvd2 -> /dev/scsi/host1/bus0/target1/lun0/cd

and then refer to /dev/dvd . this works for both drives . The paths in
the links are different because I did the second one by hand and I
prefer to use the complete path in links.
