Good diagnosis.  I now have video at all stages of play!

The audio during actual video play back is still bad.  Same ogle_audio errors 
as before.  Given the current flux in alsa and ogle, is my best bet to just 
wait until a new version of ogle is released?

The region code is set, and I have been able to setup a working solution under 
Xine with proper 5.1 surround...  but I shudder every time I use Xine, so the 
sooner I can switch back to Ogle, the better.  (what's with that awful splash 
screen!)

Thanks a million.  I'm always impressed by anyone who can diagnose a problem 
based on little scraps of information provided by someone who doesn't even 
begin to understand the nature of the problem :)
