As the author of dvd::rip I can't speak in an objective fashion about 
it, but I give my very best... ;)

The problem with dvd::rip is, it's _really_ DVD centric. It has no 
generic support on transcode's input side (just DVD/VOB's). I think a 
transcode GUI would look different and dvd::rip wouldn't be a good 
starting point for that.

This transcode GUI would do the job as a DVD transcoder as well, but 
probably not at the convenience level dvd::rip provides (once you're 
familar with it; there are of course many things which could be 
improved, e.g. a "simple" interface variant, which hides more details 
behind presets - if I had the time... ;).

AFAIRC this was postponed after the 1.1.0 release, which happend about 
two weeks ago, so hopefully we need just a little more patience... ;)
