VLC Qt interface redesign and help compiling VLC media player

HI everyone, My name is Aakarsh MJ. I am sorry if this is not the right
platform to ask questions regarding compilation and discussing gsoc idea, I
tried asking the same on irc previously but got no reply.

I am looking forward to contributing to issues related to "VLC Qt interface
redesign" for this year's gsoc and become an active member in the long run
since I use vlc media player. I have prior experience with Qt and C++. I am
an active KDE contributor contributing majorly to Merkuro(formerly
Kalendar) and KDE Eco.

I have gone through the details regarding the same available on wiki for
GSoC. I have some question regarding this:
1) Can someone share the new designs that have been referenced for the
redesign.
2) If it's okay, can I get information about the preferred way to get in
touch with the mentor Pierre so I could further understand and discuss in
detail the said idea.
3) I was trying to compile vlc but ran into some issues, irc was helpful in
understanding partly why it was not working but I still need some help
regarding this.
* Initially on following the preferred method I ran into some issues, on
sharing the error it was suggested that I use contrib method since the
version that I was trying to compile depended on ffmpeg's old version
* I did that and am getting the following error:
