A WLAN has a max of 11Mbps, which fact means that you may call yourself lucky if you can get a sustained bandwidth of about 5Mbps on a good day. WLAN is very subjective to environment noice, line of sight, room temperature and moister in the air. If trying to transcode, then a lower quality stream of 1-2 Mbps will always work when you have signal.
