OK so far!
For the breakdown I am still stepping in the dark, as it happened with Mplayer 
too meanwhile - and two playback engines cannot be that buggy at the same 
time, can they? Maybe it's a kernel issue, don't know. Anyway it's very 
tricky to find out the real good reason why that happened.

Now for problem number two (missing menu titles in xine-ui 0.99.5-2+b1) I 
added a screenshot as outline attachment this time (as recommended by 
Darren).
