OK so far:

All 2 bugs were already discussed with Darren Salt.

Solution for Bug 1:
Either the code producer or the Debian packager should put de_DE instead of 
de_UTF-8 (which causes the trouble here and in other linux applications 
also!) as german language default setting (*.mo-file, *.po.-file) - then 
Umlaut trouble will be gone. Just take an editor like kwrite and change the 
setting and then edit the rest of the language file - no sweat at all!

Solution for Bug 2:
Christophe Thommeret already fixed it - so please rework xine-ui and put out 
another Debian version of xine-ui.
