Jago and I have been e-mailing back and forth, with Jago providing some troubleshooting tips. To summarize: First, after attempting to open gxine, I looked up .xsession-errors and found the following: The program 'gxine_bin' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'. (Details: serial 348 error_code 11 request_code 140 minor_code 19) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3 Major opcode: 19 Minor opcode: 0 Resource id: 0x320002e X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3 Major opcode: 20 Minor opcode: 0 Resource id: 0x0 At which point, Jago asked me to look up swap and memory: Swap: 2104472k total, 149008k used, 1955464k free, 647888k cached Mem: 963216k total, 883204k used, 80012k free, 18092k buffers To which Jago replied: > So looking at the free amounts of swap space, I see it is largely unused. > As far as RAM is concerned, I see that you have only 80 megabytes free. > Multi-Media GUI-based applications gobble up lots of memory. > I dont know how much memroy gxine needs. I would think that 80 meg of > free ram is sufficient to let gxine run. So my suspicion is that gxine is making > some request to the X server, and the X server has a bug and crashes. > Debugging the X server is not an easy task. If I were you I would submit > this bug to them via the web page https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ > You may need to create a free account first before you can submit the bug. So, that's where I'm at now. Thanks! Sue ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
